Mississippi River
and Surrounding Wildlife Areas
Hog Slough is at the 295 mile marker on the Mississippi River. The levee road at Hog Slough opens to the mile wide river channel. Private colorful river cabins on the oak and cottonwood tree lined banks look across the channel at a 1000 acre river island. The view is even better when one of the river boat queens is passing by Hog Slough.
Hog Slough is just across the river from the 7,000+ acres which make up the Ted Shank State Wildlife Management Area.
Up river just three miles is Cottonwood Hunting Club, a mainland and island wetland preserve. Across the river from Cottonwood is the Edward Anderson Wildlife Area. All total there are more than 10,000 acres of wildlife areas and preserves around the Hog Slough Hunting Club attracting waterfowl from the Mississippi River Flyway.
