The Hog Slough Hunting Club
in Pike County, Illinois is 500 acres of deer, duck, goose, and turkey hunting. Hog Slough was created by the Mississippi River (mile marker 295) located in the river bottoms next to the levee. Across the river is the 7000+ acres of Ted Shanks Wildlife Management Area. Hog Slough is some of the most beautiful, back to nature, wetlands and forest wildlife habitat in the Mississippi River Valley.
Hog Slough is the guardian of the remains of corn whiskey stills and infamous river club houses. Near by Cincinnati Landing was a stopover for the Golden Rod and other showboats. The Landing was a pickup point to ferry construction workers building Saverton Dam, just down river from Hannibal Missouri. Mark Twain was inspired by the beauty of the Mississippi River islands, marshes, large oak and cottonwood trees which even today preserves the secrets of Hog Slough.
